2017 Harvest 11

Hot damn!! It's getting toasty out here folks. We hope you all are staying relatively cool. This week is going to be a rough one but the list of things to get done is long so we're going to do our best to keep up with chores despite the heat. Because of the extreme temperature you'll notice a flavor difference in a few of the items this week. The lettuce is going to be stronger (and have a slight bitter taste to it). Bitter isn't bad and I encourage folks to recognize that the temperature and weather conditions always affect the flavor of the crops. This is the August harvest of lettuce and chard and their flavors will be different than say, the June harvest. With that being said, the squash and cucumbers are stoked and the blueberries continue to be juicy and sweet.

We're getting close to our corn harvest (yay!!) and the melons are looking great. The potatoes this season haven't sized up the way they have in years past but they still taste great. They'll be slowly making appearances in your boxes over the next few weeks and then we'll do our big harvest for the fall.

This week we want you all to mark your calendars for Saturday August, 26th 4pm. We're hosting our annual "rock the harvest" party with the always amazing Greenneck Daredevils who will be rocking out for the 4th year in a row! There will be beer and wine available so bring a picnic dinner and enjoy being out at the farm with great music and good company.

Alright folks, we hope you stay cool this week and enjoy the bounty! See you soon.

A & T

2017 Harvest 10

Howdy folks and welcome to week 10 of your CSA share. Things are really heating up out in the fields and the summer crops are cranking. We're in desperate need of some rain but it's not looking like that will happen for a loooooong time. So for now we're spending more time than we'd like moving irrigation lines. Luckily we've got a good supply of water thanks to the wet winter so we don't have to worry about a water shortage this year.

This week we're happy to have blueberries be a part of your share. We've partnered for a second year in a row with our awesome CSA members Courtney and Jason who live just up the road from us and we're picking their organic berries for you all. They're sweet and delicious and we hope you all love them as much as we do.

This coming week we're going to start pulling our storage onions out of the ground and begin curing them in the barn. They're looking good this year so we're hoping for an abundant harvest (fingers crossed!) We've had a few tomatoes ripen for us and they taste amazing this year. They're still a few weeks away from really kicking into full production but they're a comin'!

Anyhow, we hope you all enjoy your veggies this week. The recipes below are pretty delicious and as always, taste best when enjoyed with good company. Cheers everyone!

2017 Harvest 9

Howdy folks and welcome to week 9 of your CSA! It's really starting to taste like summer around  here and this week's box is a reflection of that. We've got summer squash and zucchini coming out of our ears, Walla Walla onions that are sweeter than ever, and basil that's more fragrant than any we've ever grown! We're really happy with the first of the fennel that we've pulled out of the ground this season and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. The beets are really healthy this week and their greens are on point so don't toss those out!

It's a great time of the year to fire up the bbq and everything on this week's harvest list is great when cooked simply over an open flame (even the chard is great on the grill!) We hope everyone enjoys the flavors of the season and gets to slow down a bit and enjoy a meal with family or friends.

This past week we've put in some long hours getting the upper field tilled in, composted and ready for our fall brassicas. We're still seeding weekly in the greenhouse but the list is growing smaller with each passing week which we love!!! As we get closer to August most everything will be in the ground and then it's all maintenance from there on out. Even though the days have been grueling we're really proud of the harvest and hope you all are too!

Happy CSA delivery day everyone!
