2020 Harvest 4

2020HARVEST4.jpg

Howdy folks and welcome to week 4 of your CSA. We hope you all are doing well and enjoying the spring bounty! This week we’re happy to have carrots back in the rotation along with one of my favorite veggies kohlrabi! For some of you this may be your first time eating kohlrabi and before you try any of the recipes below, just try a slice of kohlrabi raw. It’s absolutely delicious. It’s easiest to peel kohlrabi with a sharp knife and then slice it into thin rounds. Dipping slices into hummus or even dolloping individual slices with a little butter and sea salt is a lovely snack. Anyhow, I’m really excited we’re back in the kohlrabi game here at the far and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Along with the carrots and kohlrabi we’ve got a lot of greens and garlic scapes again. It’s a great week to get cooking!

Thanks again everyone and we hope you have a good week and get to enjoy some tasty meals with your family.

Your farmers,
A & T & baby P

Howdy folks and welcome to week 3 of the 2020 season. We hope you all are staying healthy and eating well. This week it’s all about the GREENS!!! I mean, there’s a lot of greens this week. But it’s springtime so this is pretty typical for this time of year. However, don’t worry, there'll be more diversity as the season moves on. But for now, It’s all about those salads, stir fries, pesto made out of any of the leafy greens, and lots of soups because it just got cold and you can throw any chopped up green into a big pot of soup! Anyhow, we hope you enjoy this weeks box of greens! Happy cooking and eating everyone!

2020 Harvest 2

Howdy folks and welcome to week 2 of your Tumbleweed Farm CSA share. We hope you enjoyed the veggies last week and got to spend some quality time in the kitchen and enjoy a few fresh meals with your families. This week we are excited about the first of this seasons carrots getting yanked from the dirt along with your first turnips of the season (you’ll be getting turnips often so I hope you like them!) This is the last week of the spring garlic (though some of you are receiving garlic scapes this week!) as we move from the spring garlic to scapes before garlic heads. It’s a fun transition to experience every stage of the garlic plant! The green garlic and scapes can be used in every recipe that calls for garlic cloves. Their flavors are lighter and a bit fresher tasting than cured garlic but can be used interchangeably throughout recipes. Dice them up like you would a scallion.

We’ve got some tasty recipes to share this week with you all as well. One of our favorite spring soups is being linked and even though the weather is warm this soup is damn fine of a hot evening! I really hope you all enjoy it as much as we do.

Cheers to the harvest!

Your farmers,
A & T (and baby P)
