2021 Harvest 7

Howdy folks and welcome to week 7! This week we have all of your taco night toppings on point! I know you probably have a giant cabbage still staring at you in the back corner of your fridge from last week, but not to worry, this will be the last cabbage you receive until the fall so I hope you’re able to enjoy it and put it to good use. These babies last in your fridge for a loooooong time so no pressure to eat them up right away. Also- do any of you ever cook your cabbage? We love it on the grille sliced kinda like a thick steak, or roasted in the oven with oil and parmesan. But of course, shredded and added to tacos really can’t be beat!

This week we have the seasonal debut of sugar snap peas along with fennel, zucchini, basil and cilantro. It’s a fresh box that smells extra good this week! We hope you all enjoy the veggies as much as we do.

Happy cooking and eating everyone.

Your farmers,
A & T & Baby P

2021 Harvest 6

Hot damn everyone!!! It is toasty out there!!! We hope you’ve managed to find some relief from the heat somehow and hopefully this week’s haul will help to keep you cool, refreshed and healthy enough to beat the heat. There are some yummy, simple and cooling recipes below that we hope you enjoy.

The farm is still hanging on during this heatwave and we are lucky enough to be able to make it rain constantly. We’re moving irrigation from sun up to sun down and most of the crops are doing alright. We may lose some lettuces and a few other tender greens that we recently transplanted from the greenhouse to the field but we’ll get through and there should be plenty of variety coming out of the ground in the coming weeks. This is the busiest time of the year on the farm and we’re grateful to be out here doing what we love even when it’s a tad on the toasty side.

Stay healthy and safe out there everyone.

Cheers from your farmers,
A & T & Baby P

2021 Harvest 5

Howdy folks and welcome to week 5. We hope you all are having a great start to your week and have cleared out your fridge and are ready for this week’s haul. If you are struggling to get through some of the random greens from week’s past, one of my favorite meals is “compost pasta”. Literally, I sauté some garlic in butter on the stovetop and then throw in all of the half wilted greens from the dark corner of our fridge. Cook until wilted and then add it to pasta with plenty of freshly grated cheese, crushed red pepper flakes and viola! It never fails. Even with the saddest looking veggies in the fridge.

Anyhow, we’re pretty happy to debut the first of this season’s broccoli and scallions this week. Along with beautiful heads of romaine lettuce, giant spinach, kale and the first outdoor beets of the season. The first round of beets came from the greenhouse and now the outdoor plantings are cranking! The beet and yogurt dressing featured below is SO GOOD!! I hope you all get a chance to whip it up. It’s refreshing and tastes great on pretty much anything.

We hope you all enjoy the veggies this week. Thank you again for being a part of the Tumbleweed CSA. You guys rule!

Happy cooking and eating everyone.

A & T & Baby P
