2021 Harvest 12

Howdy folks and welcome to week 12 of your summer CSA share. This week it’s full on summertime in your boxes!! We’ve got tomatoes, eggplants and peppers galore! We’re taking a break from lettuce as the heat took a toll on the planting we should be harvesting right now but it will be back in action soon. We’re also giving you all a much needed break from zucchini and cucumbers, though there’s plenty more where those came from so they will be back! Anyhow, we hope you all enjoyed that cooler weather we were gifted with last week and hopefully this next heatwave doesn’t last long.

Take care everyone and happy eating.

2021 Harvest 11

Howdy folks and welcome to week 11. We hope you all are having a great start to the week and are ready for another heavy load of produce. This week we are SO excited to have the annual debut of shishito peppers! These are one of our favorite summertime treats and we hope you like them because there’s plenty more where these came from! Honestly, the best way to prepare these is to toss them in oil and blistered them on a hot grill or in a frying pan. Then serve them seasoned with sea salt and that’s it!! So easy and so good. My mom also adds the blistered peppers to grilled cheese sandwiches which takes things to a whole new level. We also love serving them dipped into a yogurt sauce, spicy peanut sauce, or garlic mayo for a fun appetizer. Have fun with these guys.

Tomatoes are starting to make their debut. Some of you are receiving cherry tomatoes while others are getting full sized this week. As time goes by you’ll get all of the above at the same time. This is the last week of walla walla sweet onions before we move onto storage onions in a few weeks. We’re busy harvesting those guys and they need to cure for a bit before we start distributing but they’re not far behind.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this week’s haul. The carrot salad recipe is awesome if you’re looking for something easy to prepare that keeps well all week long in the fridge. It goes well with just about any main course and is really tasty!

Happy cooking and eating everyone!

2021 Harvest 10

Howdy folks and welcome to the double digits! I cannot believe we’re already at week 10. The season is really starting to fly by and the fields are cranking with all the summer bounty. This week it’s all about those cucumbers, root veggies, the first of the green beans, more walla walla onions and more. Starting next week we’ll start teasing boxes with tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers with melons and corn not far behind. The way that will work is that in the beginning some boxes will have tomatoes while other boxes might get eggplants or peppers. We just do this as we won’t have enough of those things for everyone at once (just in the beginning) but will gradually increase as the season goes on. It’s just for a brief time that we do that but it all evens out in the end.

Anyhow, we hope you enjoy this week’s harvest. And if you get a change to make the summer slaw (first recipe listed below) It’ll be a great way to make room in your fridge as you’ll use half of this week’s share in the recipe. And the slaw keeps well in the fridge for 3 days. It’s a tasty one! And yes, there’s a LOT of cucumbers this week. If you’re overwhelmed don’t forget they taste great sliced up and added to your water, blended into smoothies or cocktails (recipe for that below) or simply sliced and placed on your eyes for some TLC!!!

Happy cooking and eating everyone.
