Howdy folks and welcome to harvest week 19! Just four more weeks after today’s share, and I can hardly believe we’re already winding down the CSA season over here.
We’re back to hauling all the heavy stuff out of the fields, with thousands of pounds of winter squash, potatoes galore, onions the size of my toddler’s head, and some of the biggest cauliflower we’ve ever grown! The fields are definitely shifting into fall mode, and we hope you’re ready to embrace the change in seasonal eating and cozy up with some heartier ingredients in the weeks ahead.
As always, thank you for allowing us to grow your food and for trusting us to fill your kitchens with good, local veggies. We love sharing recipes and ideas to help you put all those CSA goodies to good use, and we hope they make their way onto your tables.
Happy cooking and eating, everyone!
Your farmers,
Andrea, Taylor, Pepper, Maize and our awesome crew
Harvest 19
Bok Choy—Full of anti-cancer properties such as Vitamins C & E, beta carotene, and selenium which is thought to slow the growth rate of tumors.
Head Lettuce—Anti-infamatory and a rich source of vitamins A, K and folate.
Cauliflower— it’s a good source of protective antioxidants, is rich in sulforaphane (which is one of the most powerful sulfur rich plant compounds that supports your body’s natural defense systems, helping it stay resilient under stress. It strengthens detox pathways, reduces inflammation, and protects cells) and cauliflower is high in choline and may support hormonal balance.
Scallions—Great for overall immune health. Scallions are a good source of vitamin C and a flavonoid called quercetin. Both can strengthen your immune system and help it fight illnesses.
Purple Cabbage—this tasty brassica helps reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation is the leading cause of disease and incorporating more anti-inflammatory foods is very beneficial.
Potatoes—Potato skins and flesh are both very beneficial to human health. Fun fact—potato plants draw some of the highest concentration of macro and trace minerals from the earth. This was news to me!! They are high in potassium and rich in vitamin B6, as well as a fantastic source of amino acids, especially lysine in its bioactive form. Lysine is a powerful weapon against viruses such as Epstein-Barr and shingles that are behind rheumatoid arthritis, joint pain, autoimmune disease, and more. Potatoes also contain tyrosine, a chemical needed to produce thyroid hormones. So cool! Eat more potatoes folks!
Onions—Onions are high in probiotics and fiber which is great for gut health. They are also high in vitamin C, which may help regulate your immune health, collagen production, and iron absorption. Onions are rich in B vitamins, including folate and vitamin B6.
Cantaloupe—Cantaloupe is an amazing fruit that has over 19 vitamins and minerals that help to boost the immune system, detoxify the organs, and deeply hydrate and alkalinize the body.

Garlic— the list of health benefits is almost too long!! It’s anti-fungal, anti- inflammatory, boosts immune health, and is full of antioxidants! Just eat garlic with every meal!
